Seven-time Rally America Champion David Higgins with co-driver Craig Drew capped a very special tribute race with a dominating performance at Wales Rally GB by winning their class by over five minutes, and finishing in the top twenty in a field of the world’s best rally teams. With support from Subaru, Higgins and Drew entered Wales Rally GB in a WRX STI that wore a livery inspired by the late Colin McRae’s 1995 win of the WRC Manufacturer’s title for Subaru.

“Our goal for this event was to pay tribute to Colin and our great history in rallying; while also thanking David and Craig for their flawless 2015 season in Rally America,” stated Motorsports Marketing Manager Rob Weir. “The icing on the cake was the great result they achieved, especially considering the conditions at Rally GB this year.”

Our Subaru ran great and the team did an amazing job pulling this project together for us,” stated David Higgins. “The weather conditions were very challenging, but the response from the crowd on stage kept us pushing hard.”

Subaru Rally Team USA technical partner Vermont SportsCar planned to enter Higgins’ Rally America championship winning 2015 WRX STI, but found it’s specifications were too far out of regulation for Rally GB and there wasn’t enough time to modify the car after the final Rally America Championship round. Subaru was able to source an NR4 spec 2015 WRX STI from JRM for the task. “We’re thankful that JRM was able to produce this car for us in short order,” stated Weir. “The NR4 spec car is very close to a stock WRX STI, and really showed to the production car’s rally capability out of the box. I can’t think of many other production cars that could perform so well in rally in this form.”
