Infiniti has officially started production of the new VR30 twin turbo 3.0-liter V6 beast of an engine at their state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Iwaki, Japan.  The al-new lightweight engine will be available in two flavors singing to the output of 300 or 400 horsepower and will be exclusively available in Infinity vehicles.  It’s undoubtedly aimed at the AMG and BMW M class buyer, but we’ll have to wait to see if it can take a chunk out of that segment once the engine is put through it’s paces. But with Nissan’s extensive, and award winning,  experience building high performance V6 engines I’m betting that it will be a strong contender in the segment but may have some trouble knocking off the long reigning kings Mercedes-Benz and BMW.

The first model to receive the new engine will be the 2016 Infiniti Q50 sports sedan coupled along with a handsome appointment of advanced tech upgrades, and will also be available in the Q60 sports coupe.  This high tech powerplant will only be available in Infinity vehicles.
